The USAWFL Chicago Tournament
In August of 2022, I had the opportunity to experience a new-found love for a sport I never cared for growing up – wheelchair football. The USAWFL by Move United invited eight teams to compete in a tournament at the College of Lake County in Chicago, hosted by GLASA – Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association.
The tournament saw a great turnout, with both established and new teams giving it their all on the grave parking lot. It was amazing to see individuals of all abilities, equalized by custom sports wheelchairs, compete with intensity and skill. The wheelchairs moved at all speeds, with occasional crash tackles adding to the excitement.
